Back to the game.

Unfortunately we were unsuccessful in getting our Zero4 license...

The result was 13.44 vs 14.04.

That Civic was too quick for us. We need to shave off another half second if we want to compete with the big boys...

: I can't believe I lost.

: Damn, I'm definitely going to pass next time!

There was a second and third race too. We lost those also :(.

But chin up Taro. We need to be positive.

: The weather is nice today too.

Yes, you're right. It is a nice day out there.

A nice day... for buying car parts…

Let's go to the Shop

We've got a good chunk of change from our Bishamon bashing, so let's try and max out our little MX5.

We’ll get a Port Polish, add in a 6 Speed Transmission and a Supercharger.

Looks like we've bumped her up to 186 horsepower with 21.6kg of torque.

Not a lot of horsepower increase, but I hopefully the torque increase will help make the difference.

We're left with 825k, which is just 25k short of the last tuning option, Traction Control.

I also bought and tried out the auto clutch, but reverted my save because I didn't like it. Basically it means you can shift without using the clutch.

I didn't see any appreciable improvement in speed, and in reality it kept causing me to get flying start penalties since I habitually rev the car out in first gear and drop the clutch to launch it.

I won't bother with it. We'll save the cash for later...

: I really need too get my zero-yon license this time. I’ll go yet it right away. Yes / No.

Yes we will, dammit.

Race Day

: Well, it's time to get going!

: Oh, you’re here again. Do your best today!

: Looks like it's your turn.

: The other car is a Starlet.

: Please arrive at the starting line.

Ok... time to see if these upgrades made the difference...

Bam! Aha! Take that! 12.53 vs 13.68!

Not only did we close that half second gap, we added an additional second on top of it. We're running 12.5’s now!

: We did it!

: Keep it up like this, it's fine.

: Easy, easy

If they're all like that, it will be easy! It's not over yet though, it's a best of 3 to get our license.

: Looks like it's your turn. The other car is a Mirage.

: Please arrive at the starting line.

Hrm, that Mirage was one of the most powerful stock cars... Could it give us a run for our money?

Was there ever any doubt? 12.57 vs. 13.39.

Taro is flying!

: We did it!

: Keep it up like this, it's fine.

: Easy, easy

We don't need to win the third race to win, but the game makes us race it anyway. Besides we're on a hot streak!

: Looks like it's your turn.

: The other car is a Corolla Levin.

: Please arrive at the starting line.

They didn’t even stand a chance! Taro's got a thing for this after all!

I guess we've earned our license!

: Congratulations!

: Now you can participate in official races.

: Your ranking in Japan is 319th.

319? Oh boy.... That sounds like we need a lot of races… There were 150 ranked racers in the first game...

: Yes, certificate.

: This is what I write when I enter a race.

: Please call the phone number directly

Ooh and the girl gave us her phone number to organise races!

... This feels familiar... Wait... didn't this exact same series of events happen in the first game?

So far this game seems to really be a throwback to the first...

And it appears Taro can't leave without one last perv.

Man, this is exactly like the first game...
