The game opens, and we see our hero Hiro and his girlfriend Kayo Chan in the airport, having just arrived back home in Tokyo.

:
I'm finally back…

:
Right…
We get our first look at the new interface, redesigned for the Super Famicom.
We've got our date and age counter back this time around, just like in the first game.
Is Hiro 18 again? Boy, he's been up to a lot over the year.
We don't appear to get a portrait for either Hiro or Kayo - It seems like the game has dropped the character portraits for each active speaker, however their mouths do move in the illustrations, so it is relatively clear who is speaking at any given moment.
Perhaps most disappointingly we've lost the full screen (well, most of the screen) illustrations in favour of a smaller squarer aspect ratio, not unlike the first game.
My best guess is these decisions were made so the game could fit on cartridges, as the Super Famicom didn't have the luxury of SUPER CD ROM storage capacity.
Anyway, back to the story. Our intrepid Hero Hiro has just got home from Japan and…

…Oh dear, it seems like some clumsy idiot has tripped over Hiro….
Ouch, ouch…
: Sorry, are you okay?

:
Are you injured?

:
Wow, what a beautiful person…
…That's odd. This guy has a portrait …

:
I wish someone like this was my girlfriend…
Well, you better start hanging out in more arcades with panty vending machines, kid.

:
Oh no! This is no time for this.

:
Goodbye!

:
He's like a hired assassin.

:
Haha, he looks just like someone.
She's not wrong. With that red jacket and messy brown hair, he kind of looks like… well…
...He looks like Hiro…

:
What is that?

:
Eri-chan!

:
Hey, what's wrong?
Wait…
It seems like we're now switched perspectives…
We now seem to be following the story of the dweeby guy?
…Are we… are we playing as him this game, and not Hiro?
…Have we just been Metal Gear Solid 2 Raiden’d?
