Okay! We saw what ‘VS MAN’ mode (multiplayer) looked like. Let’s check out ‘VS COM’

First up we get to choose our track conditions. They are the typical dry, wet and ice cream options. I’m going to choose the Dry track.

We now get to pick a car. Unlike the story or multiplayer modes, it seems there’s a pretty limited selection here, with only 13 of the games 50 cars available. But most of the favorites are here.

Speaking of which, I’ll choose the mighty FDS3S RX7, Hiro's car from the intro movie, and another amazing car that we didn’t end up getting to drive in the story.

Dry Course. First Round

Before each race, we get a introductory screen.

And the race begins...

This all looks very familiar, since we've done it a couple of hundred times throughout the Story mode. We’re up against a Mustang here in our RX7.

Creamed him. 13.19 vs 14.32.

Congratulation!

Congratulations on your first win!

Please choose your prize.

We’re now introduced to a blind box selection… Let’s pick.... the one on the left.

Ooh, we got a car part!

Intercooler. I’ll give it to you.

Good Luck in the next race.

Next up, we’re against a Porche 944…

We beat them, once again however, it was a little closer this time...

Congratulation!

Please choose your prize.

Supercharger. I’ll give it to you.

Good Luck in the next race.

You get the picture here. Let's skip ahead a bit.

There’s 8 races in total. Each gets progressively harder and your ability to win really does come down to luck on whether you get the better parts or not in the draw.

I tried the wet and ice races and they are functionally identical to this, but with the added difficulty / technique required to handle the cars and avoid wheelspin slowing you down.

Eventually, after a few races, we find ourselves in the final battle.

We're up against a blue Cobra, just like Uncle Burgers car.

It's extremely close, but we won by a 100th of a second!

Our reward for finishing is a rather… risque… looking trophy with a series of floating lips of various sizes spinning around it.

It turns out this is actually a roulette game of chance... which lips will we win as our reward?

This seems completely random, so I've ran it a bunch of times and collated their results here:
