Okay. I never, ever want to do that again.

Hiro is now level 155, with 2670hp, 199ap and 189ac.

How did we accomplish this? Well...

With the emulator on fast forward, I ran back and forth up and down the tower, defeating enamies, again, and again, and again and again and again...

On some floors I had a little routine. Once Hiro was strong enough to one punch enemies, we'd go back and forth. As soon as he was getting low, we'd visit the Sexy Woman for a little rest, and he was ready to fight again.

I don't want to know many times I did this. It took hours whilst I watched various television shows and a formula one race.

And I was cheesing this with an sped up emulator and save states.

But finally... we've reached the top of the Empire State Building... Level 25...

First off, I ran into trouble. No matter where I went on this floor, I had to face off against the solider pair.

Even at our advanced levels, these guys are crazy tough. We can't take on more than a few pairs of them without losing enough health to die. And this is after being able to one shot everyone else on all the other floors with a standard attack.

It seemed getting to the doors at the end of the room was literally impossible. I felt I'd need to be level 200 to even put a dent in them.

I then realised something, thanks to my copious save stating. Unlike other floors, it didn't seem these guys were random. They always appeared in the same spots.

I realised I could work my way around them. This floor isn't random encounters... it's a maze!

Eventually I figured out the pattern, and made my way to the final door...

To reveal the final boss!

The game calls him 'Kabone'...

but, let's be honest. Orange Hair? Sitting on gaudy furniture? Smoking a cigar? Lives at the top of a tower in New York?

Can't help but think this character was based on a certain Don... You know, a Mafia Don.

Anyway, Don here is crazy powerful, and will take us out in two hits.

But! We never gave him the chance...

Thank you, crazy key west lady and your chloroform!

With Don asleep, it's time to break out our special techniques.

What follows, wasn't particularly fun. I would hit him twice, use Chloroform rag to prevent him from waking up, then hit him two more times. Repeat. again, and again, and again for about 10 minutes....

How on earth anyone managed to do this on a real console back in the day, I have no idea....

Finally... finally... the bastard went down.

Yay I defeated the boss!

Police License. I got it!

And our reward item seems to be a Police License!

: It seems they caught the culprit. That’s quite a feat.

Not to mention some fat cash....

: Bonus of $105,266 and that’s 4,758 from part-time work.

: Well done!

: Thankyou!

Thanks to all these shennanigans, we have $130,941 to our name! That's a lot of Honda Beats...

... I really... really... hope the next location doesn't take our money from us again...

I was curious about what this Police License does, so I made a quick trip to Dallas to ask Arnie about it.

: Oh, that's a police license. Any villain will run away when they see this.

I thought perhaps this might be something for the Security Guard job, but I went back and it wasn't equipable as an item or something we can use enemies, so this must be something else we haven't seen yet.

I tried to think of what we've encountered that would be a 'villain' and the closest I could think of was those guys from Detroit, so I tried to visit there, only to find the game won't let us anymore...

I don't want to die yet.
