So there's lots of questions where Hiro actually is located. I still think it's Everywhere, USA.

But this picture seemed oddly familiar to me.





I was really curious to see if I could figure out where in America this is.

It looks like it's digitally traced over a photo-scan, evident by the advertising for Exorcist III, which came out in 1990.

The Marlboro writing / Marlboro man was the another clue. Unlike the first game they didn't bother to hide the brand.

Going down a rabbit hole, I found out that for 20 of years, across from the Chateau Marmont on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood always had a large statue of the Marlboro man, which would change, periodically until it was removed in the late 1990's for cigarette advertising reasons.








This is definitely that location. And hey, look there's a Jimny in this photograph!


Here is the location today The movie billboard is till there, but Marlboro Man is gone.

The main difference is in the games depiction of the street, which unlike the real thing, has cars are driving on the correct side of the road (the left). No wonder Hiro likes this place so much.
