An interlude to go through Items!

So, as I mentioned earlier, every time you leave Shifty’s shop, he tries to sell you random items.





These have been rather random and varied, and are the equivalent of the mail order items you could buy in the Magazine in the first game. And like the first game, it's really unclear what they do, if anything.





I've been quietly amassing a collection of these, waiting to see if they have any gameplay relevance. So far, the only item I can use in a Security Guard battle is the photo of Kayo-Chan, which you started the game with.

I did find however, that purchasing CDs changes the background music during races. Neat!

I assume, but have not tested, that things like the Mithril Knuckles might add more power to a fight, finger sleeves might make it less likely for the Dogs to pull away and perhaps things like hand cream assist in faster shifts in a race… or perhaps these are all entirely there only as a gag.

Anyway, remember before how I said there was some audio issue with my Testarossa race and I had to dub in audio?

This was driving me insane. I looked at my audio output, no issue. I played around with retro arch's settings, tried other games, and everything was working as expected. Finally, on a whim I loaded an older save state… and it worked. Why did that one work, when my main one didn't?

I had almost decided that I’d need to start over from an earlier point.

I had just about given up, when I suddenly remembered Shifty had sold me a set of ear plugs.

...Turns out these mute all audio to the game…
