Part 15: Our first Ameri-Car!
Ok, we’re in Shifty’s used car dealership (by the way I named him Shifty) and we’re looking at used cars.
Now. I wanted to perhaps give you guys a down-selection of cars to choose from like in the first game, and talk incessantly about how amazing the variable valve timing was on the 3S-GTE engine…
… but there’s SO MANY cars here! I did not expect this… Just look at them all!
24 cars in total! As a reminder, the first game had a total of 20 by the end, which you progressively unlocked over the course of the story.
…And as i’m sure, everybody noticed, there's no MR2! It's enough for a man to jump on the plane and head back to Japan.
However - I did notice there's a lot of other notable cars missing… like the Skyline or even the cars that are featured on the front cover, like the NSX and Soarer…

So I’m hoping these cars are just what's available here in Shifty’s shop, and like in the first game, more will be unlocked later….
… But the presence of the mighty Fairlady Z questions this assumption, as it was one of the most powerful cars in the first game, and still the most powerful here…
But in amongst the 24 cars… there’s a few… odd choices here...
…Like… what the hell is a Nissan Terrano doing here?
I know this as the Nissan Pathfinder, and a good friend of mine from High school had one of these. This was his…

It was always a good time to be a passenger in his car. He was always very cavalier about driving over median strips, or straight through the centre of a roundabout…
But how would this thing handle a Zero4 race?
Or, for that matter… Suzuki Jimny?!?

Or a Diahatsu Mira?

In fact, there are alot of Kei cars here…
I could dedicate a whole post to the Kei Car - but if you're not familiar, Kei cars are a category of cars that were released in Japan that had strict size and engine limitations. These limitations allowed them to circumvent particular taxes and insurance costs, as (originally) they could be categorised as a motorbike.
As a result, they are tiny, have very little power and use all sorts of clever engineering tricks to get the most out of them. Like being super crazy light, for one.
There were attempts to sell them abroad in places like Australia and America…. They were not successful.
I think they're super cool. But they are practically deathtraps… I’m sure it’d be very safe zooming around the USA in a Suzuki Cappucino…

…Aw fuck. You’re going to make us choose something absurd, like one of these, aren’t you?
Well, we’ve got 25K to spend, remembering that whatever we don’t spend on the car, we can spend on aftermarket parts and tuning.
To try and help this decision, I’ve put together a table of all the cars available currently.
Most important column is ‘in BeamNG’ because, if I can’t find it, that means I can’t make dumb videos with it (or will need to find something simliarish).

This time around, since there's so much choice - you can have two votes for individual models and additionally, and a preferred category of car.
You can also just choose the category if you're like me and paralyzed by choice.
The categories are:
- Sports car (in which I roll up Hot Hatch / Sedan / Coupe etc)
- Kei Car (i.e. Cappuccino, Mira etc)
- Four Wheel Drive (i.e. Pajero, Terrano)
Car enthusiasts, feel free to make your case for particular models too.
Ok - please take another look at the cars available whilst jamming out to some rockabilly music, and make your decision!
