There's not much more to say here because harperdc already said it...

The BNR32 Skyline GT-R is an absolute monster. It actually was also a homologation car -- built for the Group A circuit racing touring car/GT car specs, which also was a ruleset that gave birth to the first generation BMW M3, the Mercedes 190E 2.5-16, the Ford Sierra Cosworth, and others.

What made it so great? Beyond a strong and race-ready straight-six engine (the famed RB series), Nissan engineered a performance-oriented four-wheel drive system -- one of the first for a sports car, and one that helped the car dominate in racing in both Japan and overseas. It was the Australian press who coined the nickname 'Godzilla,' after the R32 GT-Rs dominated the Australian Touring Car series and its annual big race, the Bathurst 1000.

The R32 GTR is probably one of the most well known JDM hero cars today, and it is a reputation well deserved.

The 'Godzilla' incident in Australia that harperdc mentioned was a real moment in history for Australian Motorsport.

The common story is that the R32's dominated, in every Bathurst they competed in, from 1990 through 1992 that they were banned from competing the following year.

There's stories of how the R32 driver who won Bathurst was booed from the audience, to which the race winner exclaimed 'You're a bunch of arseholes!" back.

And in subsequent years, it became the races of the V8 Super Cars, which primarily focused on locally made, Australian Supercars.

The truth, as always is somewhere in the middle. The real reason they were booed was because the R32 crashed, causing a multi car wreck, and the race was red flagged (ended prematurely). And since red flagged races rule states that the podium is based on the lap before the lap was red flagged - the winner went to the Skyline - enraging local fans who though the Cosworth Sierra deserved the win.

But, undeniably, the cars were absolute monsters, and directly lead to rule changes in Motorsport - and lots of pissed off Aussie Bogans to this day hate 'jap crap' or 'rice burners' - which is always endlessly amusing to me.

There's not much more to say, other than this car is a solid platform for sugar beat tuning.
